A little bit about me...

Hi, I’m Megan.
Lovely to meet you…

Throughout my career as a Registered Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and supporting families on their pregnancy and birth journey. This has included providing care and support in the - antenatal clinic - childbirth education workshops - as their support midwife during their labour and/or elective cesarean birth - on the postnatal ward and also home visits in the first few weeks following birth. Practising privately as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) under the banner of ‘Families At Heart’, is an absolute joy to be able to do.

The word ‘Families’ can mean a multitude of different things to many people, and I feel very privileged when I am welcomed into a family’s home - to meet you all - however you are feeling in that moment. I will always aim to provide care that allows you to make fully informed evidence based decisions around your personal feeding and caregiving preferences. It is always a true joy watching a family feel empowered as their confidence soars with the achievement of their own feeding goals.

I am also a mum to three awesome adult children and happily married to my husband and best friend of 26 years. My own breastfeeding journey began over 25 years ago, and I am happy to share with you…after a lot of perseverance, determination and grit…(reminding myself there were also days of celebration)…I thankfully and happily met my own personal breastfeeding goals. The most memorable days for me were believing - “My baby and I can do this!”

The support, guidance, encouragement and care I received with all 3 of my babies sparked a strong desire to work alongside other families going on a similar journey. I now have a very rewarding career supporting families professionally, spanning 13 years and counting.

“Breastfeeding reminds us of the universal truth of abundance; the more we give out, the more we are filled up, and that divine nourishment – the source from which we all draw - is like a mother’s breast, ever full and ever flowing.”

- Sarah Buckley

There are so many aspects of my job as a Lactation Consultant that I feel  privileged in being able to provide support and care. For me personally, it is having the opportunity to:

Observe each families admiration for each other as they transition to parenthood. It is witnessing the unconditional love and bond between a baby and their parent/s and extended family members. It is being a very small part of observing a parents self belief, confidence and love for their baby grow when their journey has been challenging and their goals achieved.  Being able to celebrate their successes with them, however big or small - is so special.
